The Portage Boys Cross Country team placed third in the Lowell Invite on Saturday morning. Top finishers for the team included seniors Antonio Chapa in fifth place and Dillon Quinones in ninth place.

Also finishing strong for the varsity boys were freshman Kyle Gutierrez with a time of 17:38, sophomore Dylan Filla with a time of 18:08, and junior Nate Partin with a time of 18:21.

Senior AJ Malenky also ran a time of 18:18, placing second for the JV team.

JV runner Michael Bingham said that it was a tough race, but he’s proud of how his teammates performed.

“I think we could have done better, but it’s been a tougher week and we were facing some of the best teams in the state,” Bingham said. “Overall I think we showed everyone how big of a threat we really can be.”

Bingham also said the team has been working extremely hard the entire summer, and their hard work and dedication is finally beginning to shine through and pay off.

The Indians’ next race is next Saturday at the New Prairie Invite.
