The girls cross country team competed in the New Prairie invite on Saturday and came away with tenth place.
Twenty-eight teams ran in the meet, leaving the team pleased with their finishing position. Portage’s top finisher was Ali Ball, placing 22nd. Madison Allen, Rebecca Timm, Lucy Appelman and Lexie Cipich each ran well as Portage’s top five.
According to senior Rebecca Timm, Portage ran well while not being in top shape.
“We had a few girls who caught [an illness] and weren’t in top condition,” Timm said.
The meet is a semi-state preview, so a good finish shows how well they could do in the postseason. With one of the hardest semi-states in Indiana, Portage now knows how they can improve and move forward.
“The goal in the end is to improve and make it to state, so from here all we can do is improve,” Timm said.
Portage travels to Culver on Saturday, hoping to improve on their New Prairie finish.
