The Portage Boys Cross Country team placed fifth in the New Prairie invite on Saturday morning. Top finishers for the team included seniors Antonio Chapa in twelfth and Dillon Quinones in seventeenth place.

Also finishing strong for the varsity boys were junior Nate Partin with a time of 17:24, freshman Kyle Gutierrez with a time of 17:27 and junior Raul Cervantes with a time of 17:49.

The JV team placed fourteenth at the invite, lead by senior AJ Malenky, who ran a time of 18:20 and placed eleventh for the team.

Personal records were brought in by Gutierrez and freshman Joe Mietzner, and sophomore Michael Bingham brought in a new season record.

“New Prairie is a tough course mentally, and we just let it get the best of us,” Bingham said. “I think it’ll push us to work even harder going into next week and eventually postseason.”

The team’s next race is Saturday at the Culver Invite.
